Liria e individit për vetërealizim në pajtim me dëshirat dhe ëndrrat e tij të pafrenuara, është njëra nga shtyllat parësore të liberalizmit dhe të postmodernizmit. Kjo liri e individit synon të jetë e shkëputur nga përgjegjëisa para familjes, nga përgjegjësia para shoqërisë, madje më të shumtën edhe nga përgjegjëisa para Krijuesit. Individi i kësaj lirie të pafrenuar, aspiron të arrijë sukseset dhe kënaqësinë në jetë, me anën e argëtimit dhe të konsumit sa më të madh, duke plotësuar jo vetëm dëshirat e ambiciet e pafrenuara, po madje edhe tekat e shumta. Individi i kësaj lirie të pafrenuar hedoniste, konsumeriste e me etiketë postmoderniste, nuk e pranon asnjë lloj autoriteti. Ai synon të jetë vetëm, megjithëse kjo nuk e bën të jetë vetvetja. Kjo nuk e bën as të lirë e as të sigurt në vetveten dhe në idetë e veta. Pse? Sepse siç thotë Karl Poperi ”ne kemi nevojë për të tjerët, që të vëmë në provë tek ta mendimet tona, për të marrë vesh nëse ato janë të bazuara. Diskutimi kritik është themeli i mendimit të lirë të individit.”

 

Umberto Eko, nga ana e tij shkruan: “ me krizën e konceptit të bashkësisë nxjerrë krye një individualizëm i shfrenuar, ku askush s’është më bashkudhëtar i askujt, por një kundërshtar të cilit duhet t’i ruhesh.” Rrjedhimisht, nëse individi nuk i vë në provë mendimet e veta përmes diskutimit dhe kontestimit me të tjerët dhe nëse secili është kundërshtar i secilit, ai individ përfundon në arrogancë dhe mendjemadhësi. Ndërsa, Zoti na ka njoftuar në Kur’an, përmes një qortimi direkt, lidhur me mendjemadhësinë e individit:
Dhe mos ec nëpër tokë me mburrje, pse ti as nuk mund ta çashë tokën as nuk mund ta arrish lartësinë e maleve. (17: 37)

Ndërsa, lidhur me përgjegjëisnë individuale, në kushte normale, Zoti na ka njoftuar se si dhe ku ajo deponohet, se si duhet secili individ ta bëjë vetë llogarinë e punëve të veta dhe se si adresohet përgjegjësia indviduale:
Secilit njeri ia kemi ngjeshur në qafë fluturaken (shënimin – për veprimin) e tij, e në ditën e gjykimit, Ne do t’ia prezentojmë atij libër të hapur,
Lexo librin tënd, mjafton të jesh sot vetë llogaritës i vetvetes”.
Kush e udhëzon veten në rrugën e drejtë, ai e ka udhëzuar vetëm vetveten e vet, e kush e humbë (rrugën), ai e ka bërë humbjen kundër vetvetes së vet, e askush nuk do ta bartë barrën e tjetrit. E Ne nuk dënuam askë para se t’ia dërgojmë të dërguarin. (17: 13,14, 15)

Këtë përgjegjësi individuale e ka secili njeri, në secilën kohë dhe në secilën hapësirë ku ai jeton. Pra, edhe njeriu i sotëm, që jeton në frymën e postmodernizmit, është brenda kësaj kornize të përgjegjësisë. Fakti që individi i kësaj kohe ka më shumë mundësi për vetërealizim, pra edhe për argëtim, në asnjë çast nuk e liron nga përgjegjësia. Përkundrazi, pëgjegjësia e tij do të duhej të ishte edhe më e madhe, sepse edhe mundësitë e tij për të bërë gabime janë më të mëdha. Prandaj, ky individ duhet të frenojë veten e të bëjë jetë të dinjitetshme e të moralshme.

Figura më emblematike e individit të sotëm në këtë kontekst duhet të jetë Jusufi (paqja e Zotit qoftë me të) i cili refuzoi të përlyente moralin e vet dhe moralin e Tjetrit, ndonëse iu ofrua ajo mundësi. Pra, njeriu nuk duhet ta lejojë veten të bëjë gjithçka që i afrohet të bëjë, sepse çmimi moral në shoqëri dhe çmimi para Zotit janë shumë të rënda. Thënë thjesht, nuk ia vlen abuzimi i lirisë individuale, nëse ai abuzim shpie në humbje.
